Banish Bad Skin!
To truly enjoy this post, you must forget all those things you have been taught about oil and your skin. As teens, when we begin our battle with acne, we are taught that it is ever-offending oil that is the root of our problems, we cleanse, spot treat, we apply whatever we can find to try to get rid of the acne, with limited success. We have managed to strip our skin of any remaining natural oil, but the acne remains and is now joined by irritation and redness. The harsh products have pushed oil production into overdrive, our bodies' natural response is to replace the oil, and so the cycle begins. As we age, we may begin to use less harsh products, but our skin cycle remains the same, we strip the oil and then try to moisturize it back in with refined or synthetic oils. Stop the cycle of working against your skin, start working with it and banish that bad skin for good! Whether you are fighting dry, winter skin, acne, or a lackluster complexion, this all-natural method is for you!
"Like Cures Like"
What I am about to explain to you may seem to go against everything you have ever heard about oil and your skin, consider the homeopathic principle of "like cures like", if you would like to test this principle, the next time you burn yourself, instead of running the burn under cool water, run it under the warmest water you can stand. While it seems counter-intuitive, it really works. This is the same principle applied in this technique. Before you can try this, you need the proper supplies. The ingredient everyone will use regardless of skin type is castor oil. The other oil(s) you use will vary depending on availability and skin type:
- Jojoba oil- good for all skin types; especially acne-prone skin
- Grapeseed- good for all skin type; especially oily skin
- Sweet Almond- good for all skin types; especially oily skin
- Avocado- dry, aging skin
- Olive oil- all skin types
- Sunflower oil-all skin types
Look for natural, cold-pressed oils (preferably organic) which have nutrients, vitamins, and fatty-acids that refined or synthetic oils do not have.
Facial Massage aka The Oil Cleansing Method
to mix oils:
If your skin is dry you will use less caster oil, try a ratio of 10% caster oil to 90% olive oil or sunflower oil. For oily skin, use more caster oil, try 30% caster oil to 70% Grapeseed oil. Normal skin should use 20% caster oil with 80% of desired oil, jojoba, olive, or sunflower are good choices. This technique should be practiced at night before bed and does not need to be repeated in the morning. Do not over cleanse skin as this will cause excess oil production (even using gentler products, use a gentle touch as well).
directions:
- Turn the water on, but do not wet face, you want the water very hot. You will also need a washcloth and your oil blend.
- Pour oil blend into the palm of your hand, at least the size of a quarter, but more is ok.
- Begin to gently massage oil all over face, removing dirt, impurities, and make-up. Use it on your eyes as well to remove any eye make-up.
- Massage face well, using this as time to relax and unwind, a moment just for you.
- Soak washcloth in the hot, steamy water (hotter than you would normally use) Place hot washcloth over entire face, allowing it to remain there until cool. Wipe oil off face gently, rinse wash cloth and wipe face again, repeat 1-2 more times.
- If face feels dry upon completion, take a drop of oil, massage it between hands and lightly pat on face, focusing on areas of dryness.
You can do this technique daily, instead of using your normal cleanser. Give your skin some time to adjust and balance out, give up those harsh products, and find your natural beauty.
