Maryland Crab Soup with "George's Bloody Mary Mix" (Just In Time For More Snow)

photo credit: www.georgesbloodymixes.comHere we go again! Another snow storm headed up the East  Coast! For the last week it has stayed in the teens and single digits. Freezing!!! People below the Mason Dixon line are not used to this stuff! You should see my Yucca plants, they're bent in half, the tops are actually touching the ground. It's so cold here they're even hunkering down! :) So what goes well with snow and frigid temps? Nothing is better than a homemade soup or stew to warm up the family and the house. In Maryland we can't survive without our crabs! So Farm Foodie Fitness teamed up with our friends "George’s® Bloody Mary Mix" to give you the best crab soup around! George’s® is local to my area, they are great friends, and they're taking the bars and restaurants by storm with their line of mixes for everything from eggs and oyster shooters to soups and of course Bloody Mary's. I Love their mixes, they blow their competitors out of the water! I don't even think I can make a bloody this good, even after bar-tending for 13 years!!!  Make sure to check out where you can grab a bottle, grab one of their recipes, and even see if you can get out for one of their events! Here's to warming up with good food, friends, and possibly getting a little snow time!Ingredients:

  • 3 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 carrots-chopped
  • 3 celery stalks- chopped
  • 1 medium Vidalia onion-chopped
  • 2 cups fresh green beans-cut into pieces
  • 2 cups red-skinned potatoes- quartered
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups George’s® Bloody Mary Mix
  • 2-(14.5 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
  • 3 cups organic chicken stock
  • 2 lbs. back-fin lump crab meat
  • 2-3 tablespoons Old Bay Seasoning
  • Fresh Ground Pepper
  • Fresh Parsley

Directions:In a large pot, add olive oil, carrots, celery, onion and sauté until tender, usually about 10 minutes. Add in chicken stock, water, George’s®, and stewed tomatoes. Stir well. Add green beans, potatoes, and Old Bay. Bring to a simmer for at least 35-40 minutes until potatoes have softened. Add crab meat, pepper, and parsley and continue to simmer for another 10 minutes. Add more Old Bay to make it spicier! (Simmer longer if you can. It will allow flavors to combine longer for more tasteful soup.Want more homemade, seasonal recipes.
